SYME Japan is coming to Indianapolis in February for its 2014 Winter term.
SYME stands for School of Youth Ministries in English. It's the name of one of the ministries we work with in Japan under the banner of Word of Life. SYME is a residential, English-immersion, Christian discipleship ministry located in Karuizawa, Japan. Most of our students are in their twenties, although a few are in their late teens. Students enroll in SYME's one-year program to improve their English skills while advancing their understanding of the Bible.
Holding an SYME term in Indy will mean numerous ministry opportunities for Christian families here. We have begun looking for families who are willing to host a student or two for part of the time they are here. Home-stays begin on Saturday night, February 8, through Wednesday night, February 19—twelve nights in all.
Home-stays provide a wonderful opportunity for both students and the families who host them to build meaningful and lasting relationships internationally. All of our students are able to carry on conversations in English (we are requiring them to speak English only while they are here), and they are happy to eat American food, while fitting in otherwise with American culture.
SYME students will be attending classes during the day (8:30 am to 5:00 pm). They will be free to interact with their home-stay family during the evenings.
If you and your family are interested in hosting a student or two for an SYME home-stay, or for answers to your questions about this unique ministry opportunity, here is what to do:
1. Follow the link to the SYME Home-Stay flyer for more information
