Scripture Reading: Isaiah 1-11
Explanation: These chapters from the Book of Isaiah contain numerous prophecies about God's conspiracy to restore the earth as a place where His rule is fully honored and obeyed. Two prophecies in particular are very closely associated with celebrations of Christ's birth: Isaiah 7:14 and 9:6. In the context surrounding these prophecies, as well as throughout the rest of the chapters in today's reading, you will notice numerous references to the coming of God's kingdom to the earth literally and physically through a Savior-King. You will also notice references here and there to God's Universal Kingdom (that is, the fact that God rules over all of creation, making all nations accountable to Him and not just Israel).
Reflection Questions: What indications to you see in these chapters of the Universal Kingdom of God? of God's Kingdom coming to the earth? How would you describe the character of God's Kingdom on earth based on what you read in these chapters? How might what you learn about the character of God's kingdom on earth impact your life now? Which of the specific prophecies of the coming King is your favorite? Why?
