Scripture Reading: Psalm 2
Review: Part of God's conspiracy to restore the earth as a place where His rule is honored and fully obeyed involves a confrontation with "the kings of the earth." Psalm 2 warns the kings of the earth of this coming confrontation and cautions them to be "wise". It seems that the kings will foolishly "take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed...." However, the Son will prevail in the end as His kingdom is established. The establishment of His kingdom will mean blessing for all "who take refuge in him" and perishing for all who "kindle his wrath". Statements like those at the end of Psalm 2 correspond to New Testament teaching on how the establishment of Christ's Kingdom will result in unparalleled blessing for the righteous; meanwhile, the unrighteous will be removed for judgment.
Reflection Questions: What indications are there in Psalm 2 that Christ's Kingdom will be literal and physical? What specific blessings can you think of associated with your own relationship with the King of kings? If taking counsel against the Lord and His Anointed stands for rebelling against Christ's Kingdom, how might submitting to Christ's Kingdom be characterized? How is this lived out in your life?
