Scripture Reading: Psalm 103
Review: Psalm 103:19 declares: "The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all. This verse illustrates the three key ingredients of any kingdom: (1) a ruler or king; (2) authority and power to rule; and (3) a realm over which the king exercises his authority and power. Psalm 103:19 identifies The Lord as the King. His "throne" stands as a symbol of his authority and power. The realm of his rule is identified as "all". In other words, the Lord is King over the entire universe, which He has made. Keep in mind, He rules over all in spite of the rebellion that took place among the angels (Satan's fall) and in the garden of Eden (the fall of humankind). On Sunday we noted how Psalm 29 indicates the possibility of God's people responding to His rule with faith and trust. Similarly, Psalm 103 identifies a number of blessings that accrue to God's people in relation to His rule as King "over all".
Reflection Questions: What specific blessings related to God's Universal Kingdom do you find in Psalm 103? Which one is most special to you? Why so? What strategy might you use to connect this blessing with those occasions in the future when you think about the Universal Kingdom of God?
