God created the dinosaurs on Days 5 and 6 of Creation week. The dinosaurs that live in the sea were created on Day 5. Genesis 1:21 refers to "the great creatures of the sea". This no doubt includes whales, but it also includes creatures like the leviathan mentioned in Job 41. Dinosaurs that live on the land were created on Day 6. One of the categories mentioned in Genesis 1:24 is "behemoths". The same word is used to describe the mighty dinosaur-like creature in Job 40:15ff. Some dinosaurs might also fit into the third category mentioned on Day 6, which is called "wild animals" in the NIV. The original term behind that translation is simply "living thing".
The question that usually arises concerning dinosaurs is, when did they live? Did they live at the same time as humans?
There is a significant amount of evidence to indicate that dinosaurs and humans did indeed live at the same time. In some cases, the fossil record shows dinosaur remains and human footprints in the same level. Though some examples of this evidence have been "debunked", there are plenty of others that stand up to independent analysis. To find a good discussion of this and other topics related to dinosaurs, check out www.angelfire.com/mi/dinosaurs/.
Most dinosaurs are now extinct. Nevertheless, some scientists acknowledge the possibility that there are still dinosaurs living on the earth. The link mentioned above is a good place to find more information on this also. Another good link is www.gennet.org/facts/nessie.html. Here you will find a thorough presentation of the case of the Japanese fishing boat that pulled what looks like a plesiosaur out of the ocean near New Zealand. You will also see the five photographs that were taken of the creature prior to its being thrown back into the sea.
Yet another good resource on dinosaurs and when they lived can be found at www.creationscience.com/onlinebook/. This is the site of Dr. Walt Brown. Dr. Brown is a former professor for MIT (mechanical engineering). Following years of his being an evolutionist, he became a creationist, and he dedicated the rest of his life to passing on information to others regarding creation science. I saw Dr. Brown speak here in the area a few years ago at E.91st. He is obviously a gifted scientist and very knowledgeable in this field. His website features an online copy of one of his books, which contains a section on dinosaurs and when they lived.
More tomorrow on the size of dinosaurs and how they got onto the ark...
